Claris FileMaker 19.6.1 Release Announcement

Introducing Claris FileMaker Pro and Server 19.6.1! That’s right, Claris has just announced a new release. This update includes Claris FileMaker Pro 19.6.1 and Claris FileMaker Server 19.6.1. This new release continues to prioritize performance, security, and reliability. It also provides developer tools to help enhance productivity and efficiency.

Automate with Control

This feature is one we’re very excited about here at PK - it’s all about support for transactions.

  • Transactions - have the ability to create, edit, or delete sets of records. This means you can use scripts to modify groups of records and automatically roll back the changes if an error occurs during the action. It’s an ideal feature for areas such as accounting, invoicing, and financial apps when needing to apply modifications to a set of records at once.

Time-Saving Tools

  • Clone Only Backup Option - you no longer need to wait for a file to be backed up in order to clone your app. You can quickly create a clone of your FileMaker Server hosted app without needing to verify the file or backing it up.

  • Administrator Roles - have more control over your databases. This feature allows you to manage a subset of available databases using a specific username and password, as well as, a selected subset of privileges.

  • Additional Database or Container Folder Support - FileMaker Server Admin Console and FileMaker Admin API now offer the configuration of a second additional database folder, a second container folder, and the ability to back up files in a second data folder.

Strong Security and Authentication Features

  • Sign In with Apple Support - you can now sign in to FileMaker apps using your Apple ID, or an email address not associated with your Apple ID. Sign in with Apple is now a supported identity provider by OAuth, as well as, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft Azure Active Directory. Rest assured that the accounts are protected by two-factor authentication.

  • PKI Authentication - is now able to validate FileMaker Admin API, which enables administrators to use a generated web token instead of a username and password. In addition, other apps can leverage FileMaker Admin API without having full access admin credentials to FileMaker Server.

  • Restrict Admin Console by IP Address - FileMaker Server Admin Console and FileMaker Admin API offer the ability to restrict access to Admin Console by IP address, in order to reduce the chance of a brute force attack.

  • Protect against Unauthorized Access - filter databases is now enabled by default and requires authentication credentials to access files on FileMaker Server. FileMaker Data API also offers this ability. Please note, disabling this may expose your database list to unauthorized third parties.

more fun features:

  • FileMaker 19.6.1 supports the latest Apple operating systems: macOS Ventura, iOS 16, and iPadOS 16.

  • FileMaker WebDirect now supports up to 600 concurrent user connections running on Ubuntu Linux.

  • CSS caching improvements in FileMaker WebDirect optimize performance for auto-resizing layouts and Java web publishing.

  • OpenSSL 3.0.7 is supported.

  • More than 100 bugs are fixed in the FileMaker 19.6.1 platform.
