4 Benefits of a Security Audit

Almost no one enjoys thinking about audits. Whether related to finances, investigative, operational, or any other category, they aren’t the happiest of subjects. However, audits don’t have to be painful. A proactive audit has the potential to not only locate vulnerabilities but also identify areas that easily lead to improvement or expansion.

A security audit of your software suite and databases is vital in this digital age. If you don’t already have a regular security audit schedule, we highly recommend developing one. Here are some benefits:

(1) Identify ongoing vulnerabilities

A zero-day threat is a pre-existing vulnerability in your database that you don’t know about, but hackers might. Potentially the scariest of all exploits, they can exist for months or even years before you become aware of them. We can help locate them so they can be resolved and then work together on a mitigation plan.

(2) Identify potential future vulnerabilities

We’re constantly on the lookout for technology changes that can impact our work—positively or negatively—and keep an eye out for their integrations and deployments. It’s part of our work as software consultants. Through a security audit, we can help identify software and techniques that may still be supported but have a quickly approaching end-of-life. Once identified, we can help you create a transition plan that will be implemented before your current technology loses support.

(3) Remain compliant with regulatory requirements

Are you required to comply with regulatory requirements such as HIPAA, GLBA, COPPA, PCI, DSS, CAN-SPAM, or one of the numerous other laws? If so, are you sure that you’re still in compliance? A security audit can help make sure that you’re still abiding by applicable laws and guidelines even as your company has expanded and added new options.

(4) Expand into new markets

If you want to expand into new markets by adapting your practices to meet optional regulatory obligations, such as GDPR or SOC2, a security audit is a great starting point. We’ll figure out where you’re at and provide options for the best and easiest ways to become compliant. Depending on your business goals, we may identify regulations you’re already meeting benchmarks for, making adaptation even easier!

There is no price you can pay for peace of mind. However, security audits are affordable ways to rest easier in the knowledge that your database is protected against vulnerabilities—and you’re being a good steward of your customer’s data.
